A Letter from The Folks at The Patch

July 2008

Dear friends and customers,

I cannot believe how time has flown since I last updated the website.  We have moved home to live above the shop but are moving back to our old house in October this year, we had been going to sell our house but the present market situation and living above the business has shown us what we have missed by not living away from the shop.  Far too easy to spend too much time after the shop has closed and also on Sundays - really miss the garden at our house so will be back in time for Christmas.  Not sure how the cat and dog will cope, both have put on weight living in a flat and I don't think either of them will actually fit through the cat flap - need to give them more exercise (same with us!).

Rebeca turns 16 in November and starts year 11 in September, her braces finally came off last week after 18 months - what a difference.  During the summer months she is working in the shop to earn money for our holidays in October - a week in Puerto Pollensa - leaving Shirley and Ellie to hold the fort at the shop but no deliveries will be made between October 21st and the 29th when we return.

We have changed a few things in the shop, namely stocking a variety of plants and flowering shrubs during the Spring and Summer; also stocking compost and various gardening implements and barbeque tongs and coals etc.  We no longer do the crazy range as the machine we had proved unreliable so have no way of sealing the trays.  We do stock goods from The Gluten Free Kitchen for coeliacs, being one myself for over 30 years I know how hard it is to source anything decent containing pastry ie meat and potato pies (really find I miss things like that more than sweet things).

Summer appears to have arrived with a vengeance, very hot and humid with a brief respite at 4.00am this morning with a heavy downpour but alas no thunder to relieve the humidity.  Sales of soft fruits seem to be up no matter what the weather, reckon strawberries and raspberries have their own sweet smell of summer.

Soon we will see the Victoria Plums and Damsons in stock albeit for a short season usually mid August to mid/end September - time for jamming.  Autumn will be upon us followed by the Christmas build up, this year has gone by so quickly, being busy especially with deliveries which have increased tremendously over the past year or two seems to make the time fly.

We all seem to be rushing everywhere nowadays but still need to slow down and "smell the roses" occasionally.  Some words sent to me by my brother Bob in Ohio always make me slow down - "Dream Tomorrow, Cherish Yesterday, Live Today" - a local church saying but oh so true.

We wish all our friends and customers alike (usually one and the same!) a wonderful summer and a lovely Christmas separated only by the beautiful colours of autumn with it's nip in the air.

Best wishes,

Susan, Mick & Rebeca
